Percurso historiográfico do campo disciplinar geográfico na Bahia e em São Paulo: contribuições da Universidade Federal da Bahia e da Universidade de São Paulo

Abstract

RESUMO A presente pesquisa analisa o percurso historiográfico do campo disciplinar geográfico na Bahia e em São Paulo, tomando como referência seus dois primeiros cursos universitários – o da Universidade Federal da Bahia, UFBA e o da Universidade de São Paulo, USP – e tendo como perspectiva a constituição dos seus programas de pós-graduação em Geografia. Nesse percurso historiográfico, demonstramos que os campos científico e disciplinar se realizam na relação com outros campos da vida social e sob as determinações espaço-temporais que se impõem à sociedade, influenciando nas posições que ocupam diferentes centros responsáveis pela edificação da Geografia na história. No presente trabalho, as categorias campo e história estão submetidas ao exercício analítico de compreender a dialética dos vetores e dos eventos que incidiram e se realizaram no território nacional, sendo responsáveis pela implantação e pelo desenvolvimento do campo disciplinar geográfico. O modo como as Universidades citadas se inserem na historiografia da Geografia no Brasil se constitui como o objeto central desta pesquisa. Uma historiografia da Geografia acadêmico-universitária na Bahia e em São Paulo, com as principais influências teórico-epistemológicas que fundamentaram sua consolidação, é desenvolvida nesta tese ultrapassando o recorte espaço-temporal imediato à sua constituição, intencionando apreender relações entre eventos e vetores fundantes da Universidade e das fronteiras disciplinares, percorrendo alguns de seus antecedentes político-institucionais mais relevantes. Os textos que se seguem tentam trilhar os caminhos de uma epistemologia existencial, proposta do geógrafo Milton Santos, num esforço de abordagem teórica a partir de um lugar, em articulação escalar, como todo lugar, analisando a conformação de diferentes situações geográficas e as possibilidades de acesso dos homens e de suas instituições aos elementos do espaço geográfico.

ABSTRACT This research analyzes the historiographical course taken by the geographical disciplinary field in Bahia and São Paulo, basing the analyzes on the first University in each state to have a degree in Geography – the Universidade Federal da Bahia, UFBA and the Universidade de São Paulo, USP – considering mainly the elaboration and development of the post-graduation programs in Geography. In this historiographical path, we demonstrate that the scientific and disciplinary fields constituted themselves in close relation to other aspects of social life and under spatialtemporal determinations that are imposed to the society, therefore influencing the positions held by different research institutions at the historiography of Geography in Brazil. It is important to mention that those are the responsible for the consolidation of Geography at history. In the present thesis the categories field and history are subject of the analytical exercise of understanding the dialectics of vectors and events that occurred in Brazilian national territory and were responsible for the implementation and the flowering of the geographical disciplinary field in this country. The main objective of this thesis was to determine how the University mentioned above are situated at the historiography of Geography in Brazil. We aimed to write a history of the academic Geography in Bahia and São Paulo – focusing on the main theoretical and epistemological influences that supported the consolidation of Geographical academic research in both institutions – through the attempt of surpassing the immediate space-time frame of its constitution to apprehend the relations between the foundational events and vectors of the University and of the disciplinary borders, covering some of its most relevant political and institutional history. On the pages that follows we pursuit the path of an existential epistemology as proposed by the geographer Milton Santos. In order to accomplish that we did an effort of theoretical reflection starting from a place and tried to combine different geographical scales hence analyzing the conformation of various geographical situations and the possibilities of access to the elements of geographical space by both the researchers and the institutions.
