O concreto armado nas edificações de Salvador no período entre guerras (1919-1938)

Abstract

A presente tese busca contribuir para o estudo das edificações com estrutura independente em concreto armado produzida em Salvador no período entre guerras 1919-1938). Trata sobre o material construtivo, sua história e aplicações na construção civil no mundo, no Brasil e, especialmente, em Salvador. Traça um panorama sobre o uso do concreto na capital baiana no período estudado, com base em informações levantadas em arquivos públicos e bibliotecas. Assinala as principais manifestações recorrentes nas quase duas décadas analisadas, demonstrando as contribuições da estrutura em concreto armado no projeto de arquitetura a partir da análise de edifícios representativos, observando como os elementos estruturais comportam-se em cada uma das manifestações arquitetônicas indicadas. Aponta disposições normativas do referido período e os aspectos do cobrimento, sobrecarga adotada e espessura mínima de lajes de concreto armado, em comparação com a normativa atual. Analisa, sob estes aspectos, cálculos de edifícios encontrados nas documentações para obtenção de licença de construir submetidas à aprovação da Diretoria de Obras da Intendência Municipal, além de atestar a elaboração de projetos de edifícios com estrutura em concreto armado e indicar as suas principais contribuições para a arquitetura produzida.

The present thesis aims to contribute to the study of the buildings with independent structure in reinforced concrete produced in Salvador in the period between wars (1919-1938). It discusses the building material, its history and its civil construction applications in the world, in Brazil and, specially, in Salvador. It traces a panorama about the use of concrete in the capital of Bahia during the studied period, based on information gathered in public archives and libraries. It points out the main recurring manifestations in the almost two decades analyzed, demonstrating the contributions of the structure in reinforced concrete in the architecture project from the analysis of representative buildings, observing how the structural elements behave in each one of the indicated architectural manifestations. It points out the standard procedures adopted in the mentioned period and the aspects of covering, structural overload adopted and minimum thickness of slabs of reinforced concrete, in comparison with the current norms. Analyzes under these aspects the structural projects found in the documentation to obtain a license to build submitted to the approval of the Municipal Building Administration Department. It also points out the elaboration of projects of buildings with structure in reinforced concrete and indicates their main contributions to the architecture produced.
