Diversidade sexual na aula de língua inglesa e formação docente: construindo um ambiente receptivo às diferenças

Abstract

Esta tese é fruto de um estudo realizado junto a um grupo de 10 professores em formação do curso Letras/Língua Inglesa e Literaturas, do campus Conceição de Coité, Universidade do Estado da Bahia, com foco na investigação e problematização de suas percepções e práticas no que diz respeito a questões de gênero e diversidade sexual no contexto da aula de língua inglesa. Orientada pelos pilares da Teoria Queer (BUTLER, 1990, 2002 ; MISKOLCI, 2012), Pedagogia Crítica (FREIRE, 1987; PENNYCOOK, 1998, 2006), Linguística Aplicada (MOITA LOPES, 1996, 2003, 2006) e da Interculturalidade (MENDES, 2004; WALSH, 2009; ALVAREZ ORTIZ, 2013) sob uma perspectiva crítica, de receptividade às diferenças e com ênfase na formação do professor, esta pesquisa-ação foi desenvolvida por intermédio de dados obtidos de interações vivenciadas durante um curso de extensão, questionários, entrevista, e o planejamento e observação de aulas. Em termos quantitativos e, sobretudo, qualitativos, foi possível verificar mudança nas percepções e práticas dos participantes do estudo, no que diz respeito ao tratamento de questões como o bullying e outras situações de discriminação envolvendo os alunos, assim como a sua visível habilidade e receptividade para incluir e lidar com diferentes identidades sexuais e de gênero num plano de aula e na aula de língua inglesa propriamente dita. Tais constatações são um forte indicativo de que o professor, ao valer-se de conhecimentos e posturas que mirem a desconstrução e a problematização de concepções equivocadas sobre gênero e sexualidade, ele pode acabar por fomentar a igualdade, a empatia e o respeito entre os alunos.

This thesis is the result of a survey carried out with a group of 10 pre-service teachers of the course Letters/English Language and Literatures, of the campus Conceição do Coité, Universidade do Estado da Bahia, with a focus on the investigation and problematization of their perceptions and practices concerning gender questions and sexual diversity in the context of the English language class. Oriented by the pillars of the Queer Theory (BUTLER, 1990, 2002; MISKOLCI, 2012), Critical Pedagogy (FREIRE, 1987; PENNYCOOK, 1998, 2006), Applied Linguistics (MOITA LOPES, 1996, 2003, 2006) and of the Interculturality (MENDES, 2004; WALSH, 2009; ALVAREZ ORTIZ, 2013) under a critical perspective, of receptivity to the differences and with emphasis on the training of the teacher, this action research was developed through data obtained from interactions experienced during an extension course, questionnaires, interview and the planning and observation of classes. In quantitative terms and, above all, qualitative, it was possible to verify change in the perceptions and practices of the participants of the study, with regard to the treatment of questions such as bullying and other situations of discrimination involving the students, as well as their visible ability and receptivity to include and deal with different sexual and gender identities in the lesson plan and in the language class itself. Such findings are a strong indicative that the teacher, when making use of knoweldge and postures which aim at the desconstruction and the problematization of misconceptions about gender and sexuality, might end up fostering the development of equality, empathy and respect among the students.
