Alguns aspectos ligados à cantaria usada em edificações soteropolitanas

Abstract

Como a madeira, a pedra representou o material por excelência das primeiras obras arquitetônicas, a partir de construções megalíticas pré-históricas. Na Bahia, ela aparece como legado português na estrutura das construções e nos elementos decorativos da nossa arquitetura. Procurou-se, a partir de levantamentos feitos em arquivos como APEB, o arquivo da Arquidiocese de Salvador, Reitor Eugênio de Andrade Veiga (LEV), da Universidade Católica, Venerável Ordem Terceira de São Domingos Gusmão, o Arquivo Histórico Ultramarino e nos relatórios das Falas dos Presidentes de Província, entre outros arquivos e bibliotecas, garimpar as informações relativas às construções em pedra na Bahia, à origem desse material lítico, aos artesãos que atuaram nessas construções e a seu modus operandi, fazendo uma análise de como esse ofício esteve presente em nossa política, arquitetura, história, sociedade e de que forma essa arte ainda está presente. Ressalta-se, neste trabalho, a atuação dos mestres canteiros da família Boaventura Abreu, da cidade de Santa Luz, Bahia, nas três gerações que se dedicaram a esta arte, tanto na elaboração de elementos decorativos e funcionais das construções atuais, quanto nas obras de restauro dos elementos líticos pertencentes a nosso patrimônio cultural.

Like wood, the stone represented the material par excellence of the first architectural works, since prehistoric megalithic constructions. In Bahia it appears as a Portuguese legacy in the structure of buildings and in the decorative elements of our architecture. Working on the Salvador’s Archdiocese Archives, Dean Eugênio de Andrade Veiga (LEV), the Catholic University, the Venerable Third Order of St. Dominic, the Overseas Historical Archive and the reports of the Provincial Presidential Speeches Reports among other archives and libraries, to gather information on the stone constructions in Bahia, the origin of this lithic material, the artisans who acted in these constructions and its modus operandi, analyzing how this office was present in our policy , architecture, history, society and in what form this art is still present.In this work, we emphasize the performance of the master masons of the Boaventura Abreu family, from the city of Santa Luz, Bahia, during the three generations that dedicated themselves to this art in the elaboration of decorative and functional elements of the present constructions, as well as in the restoration works of the lithic elements belonging to our cultural heritage.
